_troll-says-my-5ft-5in-husband-looks-like-my-son-but-we-couldnt-be-more-in-love.webp "A 5ft 10ins woman who towers over her short husband says trolls say he looks like her son but they couldn’t be more in love.<br/><br/>Cassandra Gaspard, 29, and her partner, Westin, 32, are constantly stared at due to their height difference.<br/><br/>Cassandra is five inches taller than Westin - who is 5ft 5ins - and is asked why she is with her husband by strangers.<br/><br/>But the couple couldn’t be happier, after tying the knot last month, and have never seen their height difference as a problem.<br/><br/>Westin, a technical account manager, from New York City, US, said: “In real life people don’t come up to me. They come up to my wife.<br/><br/>“They said ‘how can you be with him? He’s so short.'<br/><br/>“People stare at us – it happens a lot.<br/><br/>“Trolls say I look like her handbag or I’m her son. They are trying to be funny.”<br/><br/>Cassandra, who works in customer care, said: “It’s a little odd that people look at height difference and think we don’t deserve to be in a relationship.<br/><br/>“It’s not the norm – society thinks 6ft men need to be with shorter men.<br/><br/>“You love who you love.”<br/><br/>Casandra had embraced her height by the time she met Westin on Tinder in 2017 – and even wore five inch heels on their first date.<br/><br/>She said: “I grew up taller than everybody. I was the odd ball out.<br/><br/>“I accepted in my 20s that I couldn’t change.<br/><br/>“Now I’m mostly in heels.”<br/><br/>Westin had never had any issues with his height or dating girls taller than him.<br/><br/>He said: “My height is what it is. I can’t stretch myself.<br/><br/>“I always carried myself in a confident way.<br/><br/>“When I met my wife I said ‘you’re tall and there is nothing you can do about it. And I’m small and there is nothing I can do about it’.<br/><br/>“We never cared about it.<br/><br/>“It’s a blessing. If something is up on a shelf and I can’t get it. Guess who I’m calling? My wife.”<br/><br/>Despite their confidence, the couple did have to adjust to the constant stares and comments.<br/><br/>Cassandra said: “I remember the very first time someone said something.<br/><br/>“These two or three older men were looking at us.<br/><br/>“They said ‘she’s really tall, he’s really short – I can’t believe it’.”<br/><br/>Westin says he also gets comments asking if he has 'short man syndrome'.<br/><br/>He said: “Someone said 'I hope he doesn’t have a temper'.<br/><br/>“Short men get a bad rep and they think I have short man syndrome.<br/><br/>“People could be missing out on a life partner because of all these preconceived notions.<br/><br/>“It’s silly stuff like women can’t be with a man shorter than her. They want someone to look up to and protect them.<br/><br/>“I’m a boxer – I can protect my wife.<br/><br/>“It doesn’t have anything to do with my height.”<br/><br/>Cassandra added: “There are tall women married to short men.<br/><br/>“It’s not like OMG I just found a rare coin.”<br/><br/>Westin said: “Love is love no matter what.”")

He's preparing to cycle 1200km to watch his heroes only eight months after a serious accident where he sustained multiple injuries.<br/><br/>(Ethan Walker)<br/><br/>In September 2023 the footballer, who left local side Huntly FC aged 17 to attend a football scholarship in the U.S. was hit by a car in New York state.<br/>Tragically he sustained life threatening injuries including multiple fractures, two brain haemorrhages and the complete dislocation of his right knee. The fractured bones included his skull, shoulder, hand, pelvis and knee. On discharge from intensive care Ethan was still unable to swallow and required months of tube feeding.<br/>The assault to his knee was huge - all his knee ligaments and cartilage were torn, the equivalent of 5 ACL injuries.<br/><br/>Ethan's mum, who was at home in Scotland when the incident happened, was notified and within a day she was by her son's side in hospital.<br/>After six weeks in intensive care Ethan travelled back to Scotland where he met top orthopaedic surgeon Professor Gordon Mackay of the Mackay Clinic.<br/>")

_fears-as-gardens-and-driveways-collapse-near-300-home-new-build-estate.webp "Furious locals say their gardens and driveways are collapsing after building work started on a new estate.<br/><br/>Dozens of residents in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts., were shocked when cracks appeared in their driveways.<br/><br/>Large chunks of people’s gardens in George Street also sank by up to 3ft amid fears of a major landslip.<br/><br/>The damage is believed to have been caused by powerful vibrations coming from diggers doing groundworks on a new housing development nearby.<br/><br/>Construction has been temporarily halted as investigations are carried out into the building work which developers blame on “heavy rain”.<br/><br/>Resident Susan Tighe, 81, says a large area of her lawn and driveway has sunk into the ground.<br/><br/>She said: “It was about two months ago it started, they’re just doing the groundwork at the moment. <br/><br/>“You can’t see anything and you can’t go on the site. We’re high up and the fields lower down. We think they’ve taken some of the soil away. <br/><br/>“We think it’s the vibration of the machinery that’s caused the problems. <br/><br/>“The vibration of the machinery has shaken the earth around the garden. <br/><br/>“I could just see a crack in the ground. It wouldn’t stop.<br/><br/>“It’s a civil engineering job. We just pick bits up here and there. <br/><br/>“Our garden could slip away. It’s a significant drop. When I walked down there I couldn't believe it. <br/><br/>“We were overlooking the field but now we’re overlooking a building site. <br/><br/>“We don't have a right to a view, but we have a right to know what’s going on. <br/><br/>“What I would particularly like is some assurance as to what’s happening. <br/><br/>“We’ve been living here since they were built 50 years ago and nothing like this has ever happened before.<br/><br/>“Most of the people around here are retired. We’ve had our garden landscaped, so if it disappeared into the field it would be very upsetting. <br/><br/>“We’ve had a lot of rain but that hasn’t caused the issue before. <br/><br/>“The noise and the dust is incredible. <br/><br/>“I can’t put white sheets outside because the air is full of dust.
